He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Knowles and Mary Inez Brown Knowles; and his brother Rev. Charlie P. "Pat" Knowles. He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Davis Knowles of Milledgeville; his daughters, Darlene Duncan (Jeff) of Milledgeville and Melissa Johnson (Cecil) of Milledgeville; his grandchildren, Allene Veazey, Cody Veazey (Jennifer), Samantha Johnson and Hunter Johnson; his great grandchild Aubree Veazey; and his sister-in-law Christie Knowles. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
