She was predeceased by: her parents, Sarah Lowe Stevens and Arthur "Kidd" Stevens; her foster parents, Mary Celia Hughes and Nathaniel Hughes; and her siblings, James A. Stevens, Cornelia S. Hines and Elaine S. Rhodes.
She is survived by: her sons, James J. Byrd (Bree), Brian M. Byrd (Kimberly) and Charles Andrew Bitten, II of Statesboro, GA; her siblings, Rose S. Mullice of Midway, GA, Irene S. Ward (Randolph), Charlotte S. Merritt (Charlie) and Wendell L. Stevens (Joyce); her aunt Carol Stevens Schoonmaker (Paul); her grandchildren, Christiauna Owens, Aria, Kaitlyn and Riley Byrd; the father of her children Deacon Eugene L. Byrd of Midway, GA; her godson Christopher D. Hammonds of Atlanta, GA.; and her aunt Topsy.
