He was predeceased by: his former wife Jean Sangster Sanders; his parents, David W. Sanders, Jr and Gwendolyn Davis Sanders; his daughter Gwendolyn Sanders Williams; and his brother Louis Roblyn Sanders.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara M. Martin; his daughter Sandra S. Powell (Randall); his stepchildren, Debra Ebersole, John E. Brooks, Jr., Jimmy Martin (Susan), Gill Martin and Kathy Poole (Greg); his grandchildren, Scotty Behrman, Elizabeth Sanders Wheeler (Shaun), Sara Behrman and Michael Dustin Williams; and his siblings, Loy Davis Sanders, Larry Carl Sanders (Linda) and Harriet Sanders Ebberwein (Joe). He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren.
