He was predeceased by: his parents, Troy Slater and Essie Mae Futch Slater; and his siblings, Charles Slater, Olin Slater, Helen Rogers and Annette Branch.
He is survived by: his wife Vina Faye McKinley Slater; his daughters, Cynthia Reese (Ricky) of Soperton and Donna Montgomery (James) of Virginia Beach, VA; his brother Glen Slater (Barbara) of Cobbtown; and his grandchildren, Kate Reese, Amelia, Tess Montgomery, Andrea Vaughn and Ashley Ramirez. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
