He was predeceased by: his parents, Corbitt Thomas Mitchell and Annie Lizzie Cobb; his wife Patsy Ann Elrod Mitchell; his son Carey Mitchell; his grandson Steven Ellis; and his siblings, Thomas Mitchell, Patricia Staples and Nell Smith.
He is survived by: his daughters, Martha Mitchell Wilson (David) of Martin and Maria Mitchell of Carnesville; his siblings, David Mitchell (Joy) of Martin, Jerry Mitchell (Montine) of Martin, Margaret Murphy of Martin and Mary Holloway (Tommy) of Toccoa; and his grandchildren, Kristin Stone, Allison Byars, Ryan Campbell and Tarrah Mitchell. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
