He was predeceased by: his former wife Julia Branham Stokes; his son James David Stokes, Jr.; his parents, Jim Stokes and Ruth Reeves Stokes; and his sister Tina Wootan.
He is survived by: his wife Sally Peck Cole of Marietta; his daughter Shannon Stokes Sale (Rick); his grandson James Sale; his daughter Laura Elizabeth Stokes; and his stepsons, Gavin and Patrick Cole. He is also survived by one niece and three nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Trinity Presbyterian Church or Agape Youth and Family Center, 2210 Marietta Boulevard, Atlanta 30318.
