He was predeceased by: his father William C. Gilbert; and his siblings, Cornelia Hutchins, Marion Whitley, Demus Gilbert, Charlie Gilbert and Clifford Gilbert.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Harper Gilbert; his children, Raymond Lamar Gilbert, Jr., Donald Marion Gilbert (Carole) and Deann Gilbert Cook (Patrick); and his sister-in-law Emily Harper Brewer. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, three granddaughters-in-law, five great grandchildren.
