He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Dewey Clifton Tolbert and Mamie Ballew Tolbert; his siblings, Bryant, Carl, Alice, Leonia and Mildred; his wife Kathryn Tolbert; his son Dennis Tolbert (Cathy); and his grandchildren, Natalie Tolbert, Courtney Tolbert Herrera (Ismark) and Kayla Tolbert. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.
