He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold Nichols and Maxine Taylor Nichols Johnston; his grandparents, Pina Clark Taylor, Andy and Molly Mauk Nichols; his wife Joyce Ann Perry Nichols; and his brothers, Bill Rush Nichols and Lloyd G. Johnston (Bo).
He is survived by: his children, Dennis K. Nichols of Versailles, Chuck and Holly Nichols Jarrell of Madison, Georgia; his grandchildren, Olivia Rose Jarrell and Benjamin Nichols Jarrell of Madison, Georgia; his sisters, Barbara Sue Kiser of Olive Hill and Mary Spagnoletti of Green Valley, Arizona; and his siblings-in-law, Idabelle Case of Olive Hill, Willa Jean Shafer of Winchester, Kentucky, Bill Perry of Olive Hill, Kentucky and Dan Perry of Olive Hill, Kentucky. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
