He was predeceased by: his father Paul Wesley Knowles; his wife Barbara Jean McBride Knowles; and his brothers, John W. Knowles and William M. Knowles. He is survived by: his children, Ginger Nelms of Macon and James Knowles, Jr. (Sherry) of Gray; his stepson Brian Cherry (Angie) of Warner Robins; his grandchildren, Rachel Nelms of Rock Hill, SC, Raymond Nelms III of Macon, Chandler Knowles (Kayla) of Haddock, Chloe Knowles of Gray, Ashlynn Cherry of Perry and Madisyn Cherry of Warner Robins; and his sisters, Sarah Stokes (James), Paula Gwathney (Walter) of Centerville and Mary Jo Dodson (Harold) of Blythewood, SC. He is also survived by numerous nephews and a niece.
