Alvin Wilkins Neely Jr. Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Alvin Wilkins Neely Jr. of Louisville, Georgia, born in Waynesboro, Georgia, who passed away on May 24, 2022, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Alvin Wilkins Neely, Sr. and Julia Abbot Neely of Louisville; his friend Keith Howington (Elsie Hill); his close friends, Roger Barrow, Matthew Cockrell and Michael Mahaffey; his friend Richard Wofford; his cousins, Ben Palmer of Waynesboro, George Dawes Green of New York City, Ani Abbot Burns of Oaxaca, Mexico and Alvin; his mothers-in-law, Eleanor P. Abbot and Louise H. Abbot; his caregivers, Christie Palmer, Jacob Hollingsworth and Brian Corley; his friend Conrad Aiken; and also, Levi, Jessie, Alvin and John Brown.
Their only child, he always said he had a beautiful childhood for which he gave due credit to Ms. Frankie Williams and his friend and cousin, the late Porter W. Carswell, Jr., who would later implement Alvin's move to Savannah in the early 1970's. Here, Alvin was to find a hospitable society that welcomed his contributions to the cultural life and soul of this city he came to love.
