Tom Bates Obituary

Thomas Larry "Tom" Bates, 82, of Lookout Mountain, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Tom was born on November 29, 1940 to the late Edgar and Hester Quinn Bates. He retired from the United States Air Force and the United States Postal Service. In 2003, Tom and his wife Lucy moved to Lookout Mountain to enjoy retirement. He was an avid golfer and member of McLemore Club. Tom enjoyed the outdoors, traveling and the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Betty Greene and Wayne Bates.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 43 years, Lucy Bates; children, Carol Swinehart, Tammy Raybourn, Melissa Conner and Marc Shilling; sister, Jan O'Neal; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.
