He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Olive Ward; his son John Braxton Ward; and his grandson Jacob Joel Cox. He is survived by: his daughters, Sherree Wren (Lee Wren), Tara Sheehan (Byron Sheehan) and Risa Cox (Joel Cox); his grandchildren, Taryn Evans (Rick Evans), Joshua Cox and Shana Cox; and his great grandchildren, Kinsey Johnson, Preston Johnson, Asher Evans, Rylee Evans, Rylan Evans, Madison Cox, Marissa Cox and Maliyah Brown.
