He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Fantaye Wolde and Workinesh Haile; his daughters, Elsabet Abate, Etalemahu Abate and Aida Abate; his granddaughters, Sarah Abate, Yodit Michele, Zaide Michele and Hannah Harris; his great grandchildren, Amyrah Skerritt and Freedom Taheri; his siblings, Seifu Fantaye and Elfenesh Fantaye; his sister-in-law Mulu Gebramedhen; his son-in-law Warren Prince; and his nieces, Eleni Seifu, Sosina Seifu and Yodit Seifu. He was also cherished by loving father to his daughters, a remarkable caregiver to his younger brother and sister.
