He was predeceased by: his parents, Dewey Wilburn Ely and Myrtle Lee Garrett Ely; his grandsons, Brandon Pegg and Dakota Ferguson; and his brothers, Jerry Ely, Paul Ely, Tommy Ely, Ray Ely and Joe Ely.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Elizabeth Miller Ely; his children, Elizabeth Ann Griffin (Robert), Frances Marie Ferguson (Greg), Sherry Lee Pegg (Michael), Tammy Tibbs (Tony), Melvin Lee Ely, Jr. (Tammy) and Chris Little; and his siblings, Patsy Ruth Ellison (Jerry) and Danny Ely. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
