He was predeceased by: his parents, George R. Mathews and Frances Holmes Mathews; his wife Sandra Kitchens Mathews; his sisters, Moina Johnson and Geneva Oldham; his stepsons, Tracy Smith and Trampus Smith; and his grandchildren, Leann Mauldin and Jonathan Smith.
He is survived by: his daughters, Lynn Baughcum (Mickey), Andrea Baker (Freddie), Deean Poulnott (Ray) and Donna Smith; and his siblings, Martha Rayburn and George M. "Buddy" Mathews (Sandra B.). He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
