She was predeceased by: her parents, J. B. Steele and Ida Lee Thrower Steele; her husband Aubrey Ford Carter; and her siblings, Charles Thrower, Ruth Steele and Josephine Blalock.
She is survived by: her children, Sheila Carter Ramey, Laura Carter Jones and Aubrey Jackson Carter; and her sister Jane Elizabeth Steele Alger. She is also survived by four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews.
