He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Downs and Winnie Kate Howard Downs. He is survived by: his wife Beth McWaters Downs; his children, John Philip Downs (Mary Morgan), Matthew Ayers (Rachel), Deidre Downs Dickey (Steve), Phyllis Downs and Wendy Sanvidge (David); and his siblings-in-law, VickieSue, Cathy D. McWaters, Bill McWaters (Wanda) and Jim McWaters. He is also survived by 10 Grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.

The family greatly appreciates any floral tributes but those who wish may make memorial donations to West Georgia Hospice in memory of Gene.
