He was predeceased by: his parents, Calvin Walls and Alice Harrison Walls; his wife Betty Walker Walls; his son James Joseph Walls, Jr.; and his sisters, Ruth Bailey and Louise Clifton.

He is survived by: his children, Randall Steven Walls (Deborah) and Debbie Morgan (Paul). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family.
