He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Smith and Myris Stephens; and his stepfather Walter Stanford Greathouse. He is survived by: his wife Frances "Nan" Smith; his daughters, Teresa Michelle McCarley and Jody Nix Wright; his siblings, Charles Greathouse, Larry Greathouse, Joe Greathouse and Linda Keeble; and his grandsons, Cody McCarley and Drew Harrison. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help with medical expenses.
