He was predeceased by: his parents, David L. Bates, Sr. and Shirley Klebs; and his nephew Jay Howell. He is survived by: his son David L. Bates, III of Leesburg; his siblings, Renee Howell (Hamp) of Kingsland and James Bates (Mindy) of Hahira; his nieces, Katie Bates of Valdosta and Tori Bates of Savannah; and his great-nephew Caleb Howell of Lake Blackshear.
