He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose Cernada and Josepha Ruiz; his former wife Velva Lucille Harden Ruiz; his wife Joyce June Bowers Ruiz; his stepson Ervin Arnold; his brothers, Benito (Rosa Ruiz Cernada) and Jose (Rosario Ruiz Torreblanca); and his brother-in-law Antonio Plata.
He is survived by: his daughter Juanita Ruiz of Kennesaw, GA; his grandchildren, Kayleigh, Eric Finley of El Paso, TX, Sharon Durkan of Boston, MA and Victoria "Tori" Durkan of Atlanta, GA; his stepson Frank R. Leggio of Palm Bay, FL; his great grandchildren, Evelyn, Connor and Tyler Finley; his sister Delores Ruiz Plata of Seville, Spain; his son-in-law Bob Orr of Johns Creek, GA; and his friend Beth Kenemer Campbell of Rocky Face, GA.
