He was predeceased by: his daughter Stephanie; and his parents, Ellen Bates and Howard Bates. He is survived by: his children, Johnathan (Debra) of Kennesaw and Andrea of Atlanta; his grandchildren, Michael and AJ Bates; his brothers, Mark (Cindy), Paul (Alida) and David Bates (Amy); his nieces and nephews, Lance Peterson (Julie) of Morris, Heather Miller (Jerry) of Carol Stream and Casey Ganz (Erica) of Prairie Village, KS; and his sister-in-law Elise Kopczick of Key West, FL. He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.
