He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. Harold and Lois Bernthal; and his brothers, Thomas Bernthal and James Bernthal. He is survived by: his wife Paulette; his children, Michele Lenoir (David), Michael Bernthal (Brandi) and Steven Bernthal; and his grandchildren, Mia, Jack, Ever and Apres.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or School in Perry Georgia or The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) of the Florida-Georgia District.
