He was loved and cherished by many people including: his significant other Francis "Barb" Jones; his parents, Everett and Florence; and his children, Stephen, James, Kerry Atwell (Kathy Jo), Joyce Green (Michael), Mark Atwell (Sheila Stokes), Andrew Atwell (Kathleen Scalise) and Barbara Wilson (Dwayne). He was also cherished by his 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

He met and fell in love with Francis "Barb" Jones and she would become his rock and the foundation of the family to come.
