He was predeceased by: his parents, Lonnie Thornton and Alice Foster Thornton; and his wife Edna Lois Fowler Thornton. He is survived by: his sons, Steven Thornton (Delores) of Huntersville, NC, Neal Thornton of Jesup, David Thornton (Cindy) of Gum Branch and Lee Thornton (Lala) of Odum; his sister Noreen Byrd of Patterson; his sister-in-law Margaret Robson Lee of Blackshear; and his grandchildren, Shannon Stafford Tomter (Ted), Mandy Collett, Robert Thornton (Elizabeth), Chris Mobley (Dee), Wendy Walker (Brad), Ashley Henry (Mark), Garrett Thornton, Jennifer Spell, Cade Mattox (Holly) and Jessie Sapp (Arthur). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
