He was predeceased by: his mother Ethel Gray Burton; his former wife Sue Meade Burton; his wife Barbara Burton; and his sister Anne Moon. He is survived by: his son William T. "Tom" Burton Jr.; his daughter-in-law Donna Burton of Jefferson, GA.; and his grandsons, Justin Burton (Kelly) of American Canyon, CA and John Burton. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
