He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Spurgen Gooch and Estelle Hogan Gooch; his wife Lanelle Howard Gooch; and his siblings, Donald Gooch and Doris Wilbanks.

He is survived by: his sons, David Gooch (Marsha) of Jefferson and Carl Gooch (Pam) of Milledgeville; his sister Dot Craven of Jefferson; and his grandchildren, Chuck Gooch (Maureen) of Bethlehem, Kellee Gooch of Nashville, TN and Elizabeth Gooch of Milledgeville.
