He was predeceased by: his parents, William Johnson Smith and Maddie Alexander Smith; his former wife Lavon Damron Smith Herring; his son Johnny "Smitty" Smith; his former wife Mavis Hammonds Smith; and his wife Mary Lou Spratlin Smith.
He is survived by: his children, David Smith (Charlene) and Debbie Sickles (Bruce); and his grandchildren, Kristi, Laura, Kyle and Kevin. He is also survived by 14 great-granchildren.
