He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Kidd-Gates and Annie Bell Kidd-Gates; his daughter Faye Regina Gates-McHenry; his siblings, Lucille, Brinson Sr., Lizzie Mae, Marvin, Mamie, Lurlene, Claude Jr., Render Sr., John Henry and Alvin Gates; and his child Jesse R. Gates, Jr..
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Keisha McHenry, Maurice McHenry Sr. and Jessica Ross; his great grandchildren, Keisha Faye, Dezavion, Mercia, Jamil, Myalexia, Macy and Maurice Jr.; his son-in-law Walter Lewis McHenry of Atlanta; and his nieces and nephews, Nellie Gates-Brown (Charles), Silla Mae Stinson of Hogansville, Tyrone Gates (Kim) of Atlanta, Jasper C. Stinson of Atlanta, Alvin, Bruce, Charles, Jaffa and Nathaniel Gates of Hogansville. He is also survived by three step-daughters.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, everyone in attendance at the Graveside and the viewing must wear a mask.
