He was predeceased by: his parents, A. E. Pennebaker and George Ann Pennebaker. He is survived by: his wife Ann Pennebaker; his stepchildren, William Donahoe (Claire) and Emily Donahoe O'Keefe (Michael); his siblings, Ed Pennebaker, Ann Pennebaker Arnold and Peggy Sue Pennebaker Neal; and his grandchildren, Aidan O'Keefe, Grace Donahoe and Mathis Donahoe. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
