He was predeceased by: his parents, James LaFontaine and Frances Nelson LaFontaine; his wife Betty Jane Beasley; his son Earl James LaFontaine, Jr.; and his siblings, Pete LaFontaine, Shirley Schmidt and Robert LaFontaine.

He is survived by: his sons, Rory LaFontaine (Jill), Michael LaFontaine (Mona), Kerry LaFontaine (Karen), David LaFontaine and Richard LaFontaine (Kathleen); and his brother Danny LaFontaine. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
