He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Ruth Barfield Carpenter; his parents, Luther Carpenter and Blanch Carpenter; and his brothers, Danny Carpenter and Mitchell Carpenter.
He is survived by: his daughter Kimberly Carpenter of Hazlehurst; his grandchildren, Kayleigh Ariel Rogers of Hazlehurst and Noah Eli Scott of Hazlehurst; and his siblings, Carol Mize (Larry) of Elbert County, Linda Wiggly of Elbert County, Janet Dove (Doug) of Franklin County, Georgia, Donnie Carpenter (Sandy) of Hart County and Alton Owens (Margaret) of Belton. He is also survived by Several nieces, nephews and friends.
