He was predeceased by: his wife Barbara Suttles Carnes; his parents, Levis Gartrell Carnes and Laura Grant Carnes; and his siblings, Sadie Anthony, Sara Mae Byrum, Patsy Martin, Willie Myrt Whitaker, Stella Holland, Gartrell Carnes of Edgar Carnes, T. J, Denver Carnes and Little.
He is survived by: his children, Sharon Arrington of Macon, Renae Carnes and Reily Vincent Carnes, Jr. of Jefferson; his siblings, Charles Wilton Carnes of Washington, GA, Johnny Carnes of Hartwell and Jackie White of Hartwell; and his granddaughters, Lori McMullan, Marie Bray and Nicole Carnes. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
