He was predeceased by: his parents, Christian Kurtz and Olus Kurtz; his former wife Leona Overholt; his niece Sheila Kurtz; and his brothers-in-law, Steve Blankenship and Steve Bridgeman.
He is survived by: his wife Esther Bontrager (Byler); his children, Carolyn Kurtz of Hartwell and Sam (Bonnie) of Mocksville; his stepchildren, Melody Schrock (Cliff) of Harrisonville, Pennsyvania, Amber Yoder (Melvin) of Grantsville, Maryland, Matthew Bontrager (Lacry) of Arthur, Aaron Bontrager (Barb) of Arthur and Andy Bontrager of Goshen, Indiana; and his siblings, Ruby Bridgeman and Ken (Ruth) of Chesapeake, Virginia. He is also survived by four grandchildren, nineteen step-grandchildren, and three nieces.
