She was predeceased by: her parents, James Addison Brooks and Lola Mae Smith Brooks; her husband William Oscar Carter; her son Dr. James W. "Jim" Carter Sr.; her stepson Robert H. "Bob" Carter; and her siblings, Carl Brooks, Ralph Brooks, Harold Brooks, Fred Brooks and Lorraine Brooks Scarborough.
She is survived by: her children, Richard B. Carter, Sr. of Nashville, TN, Stephen C. Carter (Kathy) of Hartwell and Mary Brooks C. Hogan (Bill) of Hartwell; her daughter-in-law Cindy Hudgens Carter of Spartanburg, SC; her grandchildren, Richard Carter Jr., Meredith Ann Carter Krzyston (Stephen), Jim Carter Jr., Lauren Carter, Will Hogan Jr., Carter Hogan, Addison Hogan, Kathryn Carter and Emily Carter; her great grandchildren, Zoe Carter, Madison Carter, Brandon Carter, Carter Krzyston and Frances Krzyston; her sister-in-law Louisa Carter Alexander (Blanton) of Jefferson; and her caregiver Jan Toney Madden.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the Hartwell First United Methodist Church, 200 East Howell Street, Hartwell, GA 30643, Hart County Food Pantry, 130 East Howell Street, Hartwell, GA 30643 or to a charity of one's choice.
