He was predeceased by: his parents, Owen Ayers Atkinson and Janie Norvan Cleveland Atkinson; his siblings, Alfred "Red" Atkinson and Helen Bailey; his son-in-law Max Hall; and his grandson Nathan Atkinson.
He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Ann Simpson Atkinson; his children, Charles Atkinson (Teresa) of Comer, GA, Alan Atkinson (Jackie) of Gainesville, GA, John Atkinson (Angie Acuff) of Hartwell and Lynda A. Hall of Greensboro, GA; his grandchildren, Molly, Abby, Brooke, Lisa, Tyler, Laura, Allison and Madison; and his great grandchildren, Emmalyn, Kailyn, Thomas, Daxton, Riley and Blakely.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
