He is survived by: his wife Karen Fortson; his children, Carlos Fortson, Taunje Watson, Millicent Dean, Shaone Fortson and Dantae Fortson; and his siblings, Thomas Fortson, Richard Fortson, Melvin Fortson, Elva Daniel, Mary Wilkins, Freda Harper and Virginia Bolden. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
