He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter A. Smith Sr. and Elsie Smith; and his sisters, Marie Patterson and Carrie Mae White. He is survived by: his close friend Carol Crawford; his daughter Janine Hardy (Jim); his siblings, Walter A. Smith Jr., Paul Smith (Annette) and Eula Faye Dacus (Charles); and his grandchildren, Crystal Margaret Bourgeois (Dean), Heather Dawn Tanner (Daniel), Shaun Laureles (Heather), Nicholas Whitmer (Molly), Wil Hardy (Gwen) and Kealy Hokrein (Mike). He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren.
