He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford E. Newell, Jr. and Annie Laura Taylor Newell; and his sister Terry Lynn Newell Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Rhonda Waits Newell; his children, Chad Alan Dichard (Kyrie) of Texas, Dustin Newell (Melissa) of Georgia, Stephanie Peck (Wayne) of Texas, Dixie Cameron (Shannon) of Georgia and Crystal Hunnicutt (Scotty) of Georgia; and his siblings, Russell Newell, Yvonne Day (Lee) of Texas and Tina Callaway (Felix) of Texas. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
