He was predeceased by: his parents, David Lanier Newton and Opal Benton Newton. He is survived by: his wife Jeanne Newton; his children, Colin Gilmer, Alex Gilmer and Taylor Roosevelt; his grandchildren, Aidan Gilmer, Archer Gilmer and Lillian Roosevelt; and his siblings, Bud Newton, Kathy Strange and Alice Walsh. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
