He was predeceased by: his wife Pauline Smith; and his son Shane Burkhalter. He is survived by: his children, Victoria Smith, Anna Marie O'Neal and Richard "Blu" Dees (Lisa); his friends, Rebecca Merkel and Rebekah McCormick; his siblings, Luella Evans, Lester and Kenny Smith; and his grandchildren, Steven Hooper, Lillie O'Neal, Emily O'Neal, Richard Dees, Patricia Dees, Christina Dees, Landen Burkhalter and Brianna Burkhalter. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
