He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Phillips and Ethel McDaniel Phillips. He is survived by: his sons, William Jerry Phillips, Jr. (Swan Phillips) and Stephen Kent Phillips (Tammy Phillips); his sisters, Jean Cato, Hazel Hicks and Dorothy Meyerholtz; and his grandchildren, Elijah Phillips, Isaac Phillips and Abigail Phillips.
