He was predeceased by: his wife Jacqueline Daniels-Smith; and his sibling Shirley King. He is survived by: his children, Roger Smith Jr. of Gainesville, Maya Harrison of Gainesville, Samuel Smith of Gainesville and Martha Smith of Gainesville. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
