He was predeceased by: his parents, James Shepherd Speight and Fannie Anderson Speight; and his sister Martha Speight Erbach. He is survived by: his wife Betty Morrow Speight; his children, Robert "Bob" Edward Speight, Jr. of Brunswick and Elizabeth "Betsy" Speight Wilson (Georgia) of Atlanta; his granddaughters, Elizabeth "Eliza" Moira Speight of Brunswick and Hollis Anne Wilson of Atlanta; and his siblings, Nancy Speight Perkins of Durham and James Shepherd Speight, Jr. of Charlotte.
