She is survived by: her husband Joel Bates; her children, James Bates and Robin Tyner (Richard); her grandchildren, Courtney Tyner and Amber Stuart (Eli); her sister Hazel; her brother-in-law Randall Reed; her brother David; her sister-in-law Betty Hayes; and her brother Gerald Haynes. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
