He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ervin Whelchel and Lola Bell Whelchel (Lawson). He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Whelchel (Ravan); his daughter Amy; his son-in-law Laird Miller; and his sister Barbara Hendrix.
