He was predeceased by: his parent J. B. Grubbs. He is survived by: his wife Nobuko Grubbs; his children, Mariko Smith (Jim), Susan Knotts, Tina Roberts (Tim) and Mike Hollingsworth; and his sister Wildean Raden. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren.
