He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Gordon Burel and Mary Bess Cain Burel of Buford; his wife Patricia Hecker Burel; his daughter Susan Porter; his son-in-law Paul Porter of Gainesville; his grandson John Porter of Gainesville; his son Paul Burel; his daughter-in-law Sandy Burel of Gainesville; his grandchildren, William Burel of Gainesville and Sara Burel Crawford (Scotty); his great grandchildren, Waylon Crawford, Bradley and Nicholas Burel; and his sister Janice Davis of Buford.
