He is survived by: his wife Mikela Okubai; his children, Eritrea Dawit (Eckert Steeple), Lula Dawit (Andrew Steinberg) and Yobial Dawit; his grandchildren, Ethan and Emilia Steeple; his son Amanuel Kalata (Nadia Kalata); his niece Kidan Yemane; his nephew Habtemariam Yemane (Yirgalem Mehtretab); and his siblings, Medhaniye, Paulos, Foto, Aregai, Timnit and Tsega Gliyazgi.
